The Sundarban
National Park is a magnificent tangle of mangrove jungle that's the only one of
its kind in the world and has been declared by UNESCO as one of the heritage
site to attract largest tourist from across the globe every year. The dense
jungle spread over 54 islands and extends into neighbouring country, Bangladesh.
A part of the delta is home to a 2,585 sq kilometre Tiger Reserve, which
includes a 1,330 sq kilometre national park.
Sundarban holds
three wildlife sanctuaries, one within the national park at Sajnekhali, as well
as south of the park at Lothian Island and Haliday Island. In addition to

The nearest railway station from the place is Canning, and the nearest town is
Gosaba. Sajnekhali is the actual entrance from where one needs to enter the
Sundarban national park.

The foreigners
need permit for visiting the national park. This can be obtained free from the

- By Road: One need to travel from Kolkata to Gosaba (around three hours), and then take a boat from Godkhali Port to Sajnekhali. It takes around two hours of time.
- By Train: One
need to avail train from Sealdah station in Kolkata to Canning (around two
hours) and take a boat to Sajnekhali from there (5 hours), or travel
onwards by road to Gosaba and take a boat from Godkhali Port.
It's also possible
to take a boat to Sajnekhali from Basanti, on the way to Gosaba. It will take around
